Understanding Personal Support for Better Wellbeing
Mental health is personal. Everyone experiences it differently, and everyone’s needs are unique. Sometimes it’s about working through anxiety or trauma. Other times, it’s about finding space to breathe, reflect and reset. Whatever it looks like for you, one-on-one support can make a real difference.
At PB West, we believe in walking alongside you, not ahead of you. Our individual support services are grounded in safety, self-determination and respect. We don’t offer quick fixes or generic advice. Instead, we listen carefully, respond to your needs and help you build a sense of stability, confidence and control over your wellbeing.
If you’ve been thinking about seeking support, this guide will help you understand what one-on-one services involve, how they can help and how to get started.
What Are Individual Support Services?
Individual support services are personalised sessions designed to support your mental health and wellbeing. These services can include emotional support, practical strategies, resource navigation, and help with accessing systems like the NDIS. Whether you’re living with mental health challenges, recovering from trauma or navigating life transitions, this support is tailored to you.
Some people come to us needing help with daily overwhelm. Others are looking for long-term support after a difficult experience. There’s no right or wrong reason to reach out. If something’s weighing on you, we’re here to walk with you.
What Makes One-on-One Support Different?
Group programs and workshops can be valuable, but there’s something powerful about having a space that’s just for you. In a one-on-one setting, you can explore your thoughts and feelings without pressure or judgement. You set the pace. You define the goals.
We support people through things like:
- Low self-esteem or self-worth
- Anxiety, grief or emotional distress
- Challenges related to family or relationships
- Rebuilding confidence after trauma
- Navigating systems like the NDIS
Our team offers a compassionate, trauma-informed approach that gives you tools you can actually use in daily life. We work with you to create a foundation of safety so you can feel grounded and ready to grow.
The Role of Protective Behaviours in Personal Support
A core part of our individual support is Protective Behaviours. This is a practical framework that teaches people how to recognise when they feel safe or unsafe, how to ask for help and how to build respectful boundaries.
Protective Behaviours can be especially helpful when:
- You’re rebuilding after a harmful or unsafe experience
- You want to improve how you relate to others
- You’re working to understand and respond to your own needs
By building awareness around your own sense of safety and connection, Protective Behaviours helps strengthen your confidence and self-agency. These are life skills that can support not just your own journey, but your relationships and family life as well.
Support That Respects Your Whole Self
We know that mental health is deeply personal. It is shaped by your experiences, your culture, your family, and your community. That’s why we work with you to build support that is appropriate, inclusive and respectful of where you come from and where you want to go.
We can also provide referrals or collaborate with other services if you are already linked in with health professionals or looking for additional support. And if your challenges are connected to family dynamics, we may recommend looking into our family support services as well.
At PB West, everything we do is grounded in human rights, self-determination and empowerment. We want you to feel seen, respected and supported as you take steps toward healing or growth.
Getting Started Is Simple
Starting one-on-one support is easier than you might think. You can contact us directly, with no referral needed. We’ll begin with a short chat about your goals, what’s feeling difficult right now and what kind of support might be helpful. From there, we’ll match you with a support worker or practitioner who fits your needs and values.
It’s okay not to have all the answers. You don’t need to have it all figured out before reaching out. We’ll meet you where you’re at, and walk at your pace.
Our individual support services are here to help you feel safe in your own skin, build resilience, and move forward with clarity. And when you’re ready, we’re ready too. Let’s take that first step together.
